Collection Spotlight: My Three Abels.

Now that I'm on the Takara Jenny kick, I thought it might be fun to share some of the dolls in my collection. I've been collecting Jenny dolls since 1998. I just did a head count and realized I have 33 dolls. I actually thought I had a lot more than that, but I have been selling off the dolls I've fallen out of love with.

I started off liking Marine, Naomi and Kisara the best. I was surprised to realize that I now only have one of each doll! The dolls I have the most versions of are Abel and Aya. I have three of each, but I used to have more.

So...on this Friday evening, I'd like to share my three Abels.

I actually disliked Abel when I first saw her. The first Abel I saw on a commercial website was the first Limited Edition version with black hair and blue eyes. She was being displayed next to Limited Edition Aya, and I thought Abel looked quite goofy in comparison. I started to warm up to her when I saw a picture of the original Jenny Mates version. My sister brought me back my first Abel from a trip to Japan, and the rest is history.

This is the Totoco Reproduction of the original Jenny Mates Abel. She was the one who won my heart, but she wasn't even my first Abel. I love her blond braids and rosy cheeks! I should really find a dress with puffy sleeves to put on her. She's wearing part of the Hot Buttered Rum Calendar Girl's outfit in that picture.

This was my first Abel, actually. Kristen (my sister) picked her up for me when she was studying abroad in Japan in the fall of 1999. I had first seen her picture on a Japanese page called "Take Me Higher." She was wearing a kimono in a Halloween themed picture. I thought she was a ghost! She wasn't featured in any Totoco ads, or anything! I don't know how Kristen knew she was the doll to get me. I had never even mentioned this Abel to her!

I think this Abel looks a little unintelligent, but she's cute, isn't she?

This is my most recent and favorite Abel. She's a Castle Country Doll. She reminds me a lot of Sanae from the legendary soccer anime Captain Tsubasa. Abel has such a small face compared to the other dolls--I think that the short bob suits her!

Whether or not this holds any interest to anyone (oh, come on, now) I'll probably post more entries like this later. I have a lot of dolls I've never taken a picture of in ten years. XD Takara dolls are so drama-free compared to Volks dolls and Pure Neemos. Also, I think Takara is the only doll company capable of doing good hair.

It's weird how the different hairstyles make the headmolds/eyeprints look totally different!

Don't they, though? I remember that I hated Abel when I first saw her with dark blue eyes and straight, Cleopatra-like hair with thick bangs. When I saw a picture of with blond braids and blue eyes I thought, "Oh, so that's what she's supposed to look like!"

Thank you! I admit that Abel has the potential of looking really weird. She has a little kid's face, and the glamorous look doesn't suit her at all!

That white forsythia bush is my sister's baby. It got cut down by accident two years ago, and I'm glad to see it looking healthy again. The lighting was perfect for photos today, but unfortunately it was cold and very windy! I had tried to take a picture of all three dolls together and they all blew over!
