Blue Flowers.

I never used to like hydrangea. When I was growing up we had a hedge separating our yard from our neighbors'; the flowers were off-white and the only thing interesting about it was that in the early spring you could break the leaf pockets open and find caterpillars inside. One of my mother's co-workers gave us this shrub three years ago. Actually, it was just a leaf-cutting in  a plastic bag. Out of pity we planted it behind our garage. A few weeks later my father, who likes to do yard work without his glasses, pulled it out and threw it in the bushes. Kristen managed to find it again and replanted it.  To this day this shrub has been mistakenly ripped out as a weed and stuck back in the ground four times.  Still, it grows strong. I think it's immortal. And look, the flowers are beautiful!

Blue flowers are special. I can't wait till the fall when the morning glories bloom!  We've only done those once before, and seeing the huge sky-blue flowers open in the morning was nothing short of magical. Heavenly Blue is the best variety we've found; the little purple ones just don't have the same impact.

Re: Hydrangea
Maybe I'll try drying some, then! I love the gradation on the flowers; they look like dyed paper.

You're welcome! I was thinking of planting another one next to it. Maybe I can try another leaf cutting. ^_^;
