Non-New Year's Eve Post.

No, it's not because I hate New Year's Eve--I love the idea of holidays and think we should celebrate more of them. I just don't have anything to say that's related to the new year!

I went to Trader Joe's today to pick up some appropriate goodies. It was hella crowded but at least they restocked! I'm taking the holiday as my excuse to eat brie. It's been so long...::sniffs::

I've been working through the books I received for Christmas. So far I've finished The Glass Castle and am 3/4 done with The Pinhoe Egg. I'm also almost done with the first volume of Barbara Ikai. Here's what I have to say about them:

I really enjoyed The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls but probably for the wrong reasons. I love reading memoirs written by people who had terrible childhoods. It really puts things in perspective! Now I feel better about the state of my house...^_^; Even though I had a hard time believing half of the stuff that happened to the author I finished the book in day and a half. I heartily recommend it to anyone who can read.

As for The Pinhoe Egg by Diana Wynne Jones....I had been looking forward to this book. I had heard it was better than her other recent works but now that I'm almost done with it I hate to admit that I'm disappointed. Very disappointed. The difference between this author's good books and bad books is like night and day. Maybe it's because she felt that Chrestomanci's world had already been established in the previous books and needs no more explaining but The Pinhoe Egg feels like a rush job.

As for the manga: I haven't finished Volume One of Moto Hagio's Barbara Ikai but so far it is excellent. It's better than anything I've read in years. And I thought I just didn't like manga any more! I think it's Japanese-language only, unfortunately. I ordered it from amazon.com of Japan, but who knows...

No new comments on TODr. I'm having fun earning lens and messing with my equipment and Barbatos hasn't come after me yet!

Sorry about the brie. ;_; It's nice to know that you're loved, isn't it?
