Adventures in Knitting.

Last night I finally figured out how to knit with double-pointed needles. I'm jazzed. Socks away! :D

The yarn I ordered for my first attempt at a human sweater arrived tonight. I ordered Knit Picks Merino-Style yarn in Petal. It's supposed to be dk weight but when I did a gauge swatch for the worsted-weight cowl-neck sweater in Hip Knits it matched exactly. And the gauge swatch looked good too! Yet no matter what I did I couldn't get the right gauge for a pattern in the same book that called for dk weight. =_= Is there something weird about that yarn or is it just me? It feels lovely and is easy to knit, though....

Since I'm a gaming nut and I'm all done with TOA I was wondering what I should play next. I have a Japanese copy of DQVIII from when it first came out and am already 20 hours into it... but I tried it again this weekend and after wandering around for 2 hours and accomplishing absolutely nothing I gave up. Maybe later. I don't have the attention span to play a huge game like that any more and turn-based RPGs bore me. Because I can't expect Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria to fall from the sky I've decided to detox with my old friend Star Ocean: The Second Story. It's fun and I know it's not too long. This will be my first time playing the Japanese version and I'm going to go for Opera and Bowman this time. Compared to the other import games I've played (and that's all I play nowadays) the dialogue is pretty easy to understand. I don't know why I chickened out and played the English version for so long! The story isn't brilliant but without the horrid English translation it reminds me a lot of TOP. You can't play it for the Japanese voices, though, because the sound quality of the battle quotes is atrocious!

Oooh, the cowl-neck sweater in Hip Knits has been on my to-knit list forever. Let me know how you find it!

I'm still waiting for my first Knitpicks order to come in... the first one suffered from a mysterious disappearance. :( Knitpicks says it was delivered, the post office says the records show it as being delivered BUT the postal carrier doesn't remember delivering it.

The pattern doesn't seem too difficult but I'm still nervous about messing it up. At least I have a more experienced knitter in my house to advise me before I make any drastic moves!

I'm sorry to hear about your missing yarn! This was my first order with Knitpicks. I've been pretty happy with my yarn but I asked for Express UPS shipping (some of the yarn is being used for a birthday present). I've only had packages "disappear" a few times and they usually turned up much later after being delivered to the wrong address. I hope you get it soon!
