It Lives!

Our clematis bloomed its first flower of the year today. That might not seem like much but we were almost certain that it had died last year. Last September I noticed that it wasn't growing any more. I gave the remaining vine a little tug and it slid out of the ground effortlessly. Apparently some bug or vole had chewed through the base of the plant and killed it. We had only planted in that spring and we assumed it was a lost cause. But what do you know, it started growing whole new vines this spring and now it has a flower! :D This is one of the small miracles of my life because even though my mother doesn't care for most of our plants she was quite upset when this one died. She had picked it out and I always thought it would be hard to grow. Welcome back, little clematis!

Thank you ^_^! We've been having such bad luck with our plants being eaten by moles, Japanese beetles, groundhogs etc., it's nice to see something make it once in a while.

Hey. I went back to the doll store friday. And it seems that every time I go, I end up making a new mistake. The first time I went I got a dollfie and a rooted head, but the body was pale and the head was the regular color. So this time I bought a mini, and a rooted head which said mini on it, and its the right skin tone, but it looks a bit big. This one is a boy mini body, and they didnt appear to have rooted heads for the boy minis, so I got a girl one. Maybe thats why its so big? I dunno. Im thinking Ill take a pic and you cant let me know if it looks freakish or not.

Also I think I'm ready to attempt to paint eyes on one of my dolls. So I was hoping you could tell me what sort of paint to buy and such. Do you use a special paint or just model paint? If my attempts at painting fail, can I send you one of the heads and pay you to do one for me? Im starting to get turned off of the dolls because all of my attempts so far have left me feeling kinda meh. Im just having bad luck I guess. Also, some of the people that work at the store don't seem to know whats what. And that makes it harder. The guy this time knew how to tell what skin tone they were, so that was good. Ok, Guide me in your ways please, oh wise one. :)

Are you sure you made a mistake? If you show me a picture I probably would be able to help you.

I use Liquitex medium viscosity acrylic paint for my dolls and thin it with Matte Medium. For a varnish I use their Matte Permanent Varnish. I've never tried any other paint but Liquitex is the brand Volks recommends for their vinyl heads (they recommend Mr. Color for Dollfie Plus, though).

If you have a lot of trouble with painting you can send me the head and I'll paint it for you, if that's what you'd like. ^___^ Please try not to get too discouraged, though! It's a really fun hobby once you get the hang of it. You just need to imagine all the different kinds of dolls you can make.

Ok im deffintely gonna try it. I went ahead and put the head on the body. Its not that bad. I tried to cut the hair but my mom had to help me even it out. Im a bit hopeless heh. So where do you get your paint? Doll and Hobby? I may do one face and send you one. Can I pay you to root hair too? I really dont want to try that one out. I can even send you some grey hair, to use on whatever. I saved the extra and put a rubber band around it. I have 3 extra heads floating around, waiting for a project. Im also still trying to find some sort of clear coat for the doll with the decal eyes. Did I tell you how the people at the store tried to tell me, you dont need anything, just use water. I tried that when I bought my first doll. They just slide right off that way. They didnt believe me either. I was like, um well I tried it, so did my friend.

I've bought my paint at craft stores like Michaels and A.C Moore. I think there are a few online art supply stores that sell Liquitex medium viscosity paint but I've never tried ordering it from D&H. I think they might sell a Volks Liquitex starter kit but you'd probably be better off buying individual bottles of paint from an art supply store.

If there's anything you need me to do for you, you can e-mail me at leene at sakuratearoom.com (remove the spaces and replace the "at" with "@") If you need painting or rooting done I can help you out. ^_^

Liquitex Matte Permanent Varnish would help if you used it as a final coat for the decals but it you tried to rub them off with a little force they probably would still come off. I don't think there's a way to make decals stay on forever, unfortunately.
