Natural Disaster 2013.

Hey, we have to go through one every year! 2011 had Hurricane Irene and the Halloween Nor'Easter, and 2012 had Hurricane Sandy. We've already been through a 3 foot blizzard this winter, but apparently Mother Nature thought we hadn't suffered enough during the past few months. Last night during what appeared to be a garden-variety severe thunderstorm, our house got struck by lightning!

We're still not sure where the point of impact was, or even if our house sustained a direct hit. It literally felt like a bomb went off outside. Even though we didn't lose power for more than a split second, our phones got fried, one of our TVs got fried, a water pipe in our basement burst and the control panel for our well pump got fried as well! LOL! We had the local fire department traipsing around our house for about an hour to make sure we didn't have a hole in our roof and that we weren't on fire. A couple of them looked like they were about 12 years old. I felt like a real idiot, wearing no makeup and pajama pants and a robe and I didn't even get a chance to hide my dolls or ponies. How the hell was I supposed to know that we were going to get struck by lightning?

So far so good...I think the well might finally be fixed, four repair calls later. Fuck me! It was such an experience that I couldn't help blabbing about it to the mailman when he picked up a package from our house tonight.

I hope that we aren't overlooking any melted wires or burned-out appliances anywhere else. Lucas was an absolute angel during the whole ordeal, even though we had to keep him stuffed into a carrier that was too small for his own safety in case we had to evacuate. I am still quite rattled, 24 hours later. I feel like screaming at random times until the feeling of terror goes away.

Thank you! This isn't going to make my already-debilitating severe weather phobia any easier to deal with, LOL...but it could have been much worse. Nobody got zapped, our house didn't catch fire, and none of the computers got fried. Strangely enough, we still kept our internet connection the whole time...

Next time everything gets unplugged. Surge protectors aren't going to cut it. If someone had been using our landline phone when that bolt hit, they would have been killed.
